You Say Potato

The intern (aka sister) and I just scored these vintage tags down the street. Bonus: they are originally from Bath, NY which is near our hometown in the Finger Lakes… G-town pride.

Father Knows Best

Top photo: my Dad, around 1955 or ‘56 if I had to guess. Not lookin’ too happy in that ill-fitted suit! Love it! Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there, especially TJB.

It’s no secret that I love stamps. You just can’t beat the imperfections and versatility that they offer. I am super excited about this custom stamp that I just wrapped up… my client asked for an illustration of her home as a return address stamp (genius idea, CW!) which led to the custom home cards. Which led to me falling in love with drawing people’s homes. Harks back to the good old days when homes had their own identities. Hello, Monticello!

I love finding hand type in unexpected places. Was home a few weeks ago and driving through the small town of Gorham, NY with the fam. We were hoping to stop by an antiques store there, but arrived before it opened (not sure how - we are never early for anything). The morning was not a bust, however, as across the street was this amazing wall-o-hand-type. I mean, whoa.

Heading to Brooklyn for the day, hoping to find some more great examples of type. Stay tuned!

Found this sailing flag in my hometown a few weeks ago. Stars, stripes, and an anchor. What more can a girl ask for. Have a great weekend!

See you on Monday.

Was in my hometown this past weekend for Easter (what up, G-town!) and stopped by the Red Jacket Orchards farm store for some cider. Behind the store is this giant behemoth of apple crates, stacked to the sky and simply beautiful. I am a sucker for wood + crates + type so this pretty much put me over the edge. If you cannot make it to Geneva, Red Jacket apples & cider are sold at the NYC Greenmarket year round and even online. Delish & highly recommended! Photos by AB

I have slowly started collecting vintage pennants. I would love to have a store one day where an entire wall (or window display) is filled with these. I especially like the ones that are handmade… the letters are always a little off. I am thinking of making one for SH/Co. Found this one near my hometown… Keuka Lake is one of the glorious Finger Lakes. What up, upstate! Label on back says “DeMar Mfg. Co. Inc. / Buffalo, NY U.S.A” Photos by AB
