Came across these vintage scout books at an antique store last week. The ‘First Aid’ and ‘Athletics’ books were published in 1930 and 1931, respectively. Really love the design… the kraft paper covers & bright colors still look so fresh. The insides are filled with clean type and black and white hand drawn illustrations. Classic. As a former member of Troop 493, I was especially excited to come across a 1932 edition of the ‘Girl Scout Handbook.’ It is a beautiful hardcover book filled with useful advice on ‘Telling Direction by the Compass’ and ‘Caution in Use of Knife and Axe’…things every girl needs to know. The coolest part is that the troop leader’s name is listed on the first page and it is Grace Coolidge! As in wife of Calvin & former First Lady of the U.S.A. (born in Burlington, VT).
