Letters

Been doing a ton of hand lettering these days for weddings + other projects. Really excited about this particular style at the moment, found in one of my favorite type books from 1924. The letters are based on Renaissance Capitals by Serlio. It’s a bit more delicate than some of my other styles, but I am really enjoying the challenge.

The Butcher Press

Love seeing this Snow Tram print by The Butcher Press in my studio each day. Reminds me of all the good times on the mountain, especially during a winter like this when actual snow is a rarity. Run by the awesome Katy Yeaw, The Butcher Press creates limited edition screen prints in their San Diego studio. Some prints are up to 8 colors and for anyone that understands the process of screen printing, that’s what I call holy labor intensive. The results are beautiful. All prints are available in the shop. Katy recently branched out into fun kids’ tees as well.

One Year

I started this blog one year ago today - January 24, 2011. I was still working full-time at my old job, but was setting up the studio + forming a plan, one sketch at a time. I had no idea what it would become - still don’t actually. But I do recall that first post as Scout’s Honor Co. and how it all just felt right. I am reposting the first image… fittingly it’s an illustration of crayons. A reminder to stick to the basics: draw without reservation, create, have fun. Thanks for following along this first year. Here’s to (hopefully) many more.

DIY on Poppytalk

Hope you had a great weekend. I am psyched today to share a Valentine’s Day DIY over on Poppytalk. This idea is all about CHOCOLATE. And yes, I ate every single one of the props. (Someone had to). Big thanks to Jan of Poppytalk for including me! Check out the full post here.

P.S. For any locals, I picked up the spice jar + mini scoop at Healthy Living. The hot chocolate + candy bars are my fave Lake Champlain Chocolates, available at a number of retail locations. The wrapping paper + heart punch are from Michael’s in South Burlington.

Custom Stamp

Toto, we’re not in Vermont anymore. I mean, look at that foliage. Had fun creating a custom home stamp for this beautiful California home. Spanish roof tiles, curved windows, palm trees, + other exotic plants I’ll never know the names of… California living is looking pretty good. (Besides the fact that it’s 19 degrees right now).

Come Fly With Me

Busy with lots of wedding work at the moment… so much good stuff going on, can’t wait to tell ya all about it! One invite is for a destination wedding in Mexico. Below is a peek at the save the date illustration… I am really enjoying their color palette of royal blue + white.

P.S. .

Jim Mezei

I love the work of Toronto designer + illustrator Jim Mezei. His style, subject matter, and execution really resonates with me. When I saw this WORK lino + screen print on his , I had one of those visceral, I gotta have it moments. Psyched to say the print is now hanging in my studio. I have a feeling it’s one of those pieces that will be around forever, no matter where I hang my hat. Jim has a few more prints for sale right now, check them out here.
