DON’T FORGET THE STAMP

I’ve always loved this quote by the great Charles Eames: “The details are not the details. They make the design.”  I couldn’t agree more. If you’re not paying attention to the details in your work, what’s the point? (at least for me). It actually scares me sometimes how the smallest of tweaks can take a design from good to great. I strive to find that ‘aha’ moment in every project when the design suddenly feels right and the direction becomes clear (oh, how I wish it weren’t so elusive sometimes). I found this CNBC documentary on J.Crew CEO Mickey Drexler to be reassuring and inspiring. Even at a brand as large as J.Crew and in a position as high as his, Drexler is still all about the details.

So today, my post on Oh So Beautiful Paper focuses on the finishing touches. In the world of stationery, that can mean a lot of things — but the final step is always the postage stamp. Read more (and humor my stamp nerdiness for a minute) over here.

This wraps up my guest blogging on OSBP for the week! I hope you’ve enjoyed the posts. I know I’ve had a great time diving back into photo shoots, styling, + blogging again. I hope to keep this momentum going… there are so many more things I’d love to share with you. In case you missed them, all of my guest posts are rounded up here.

P.S. Speaking of Eames and stamps, check out these amazing USPS stamps honoring the work of Charles + Ray! They were issued back in 2008. Man, do I wish I was paying attention to stamps back then. (Thankfully, there’s always ebay).

P.P.S. More stamp love.

Have a great weekend.

JESSICA + DAN / SAVE THE DATE

Stowe, Vermont holds a special place in my heart so it was SO FUN to create these save the date postcards for Jessica + Dan. They are getting married next spring at the lodge, with Mount Mansfield as their backdrop. Seriously, what more do you need.

MINNESOTA TO NEW JERSEY

I’m trying to imagine a time when mailing addresses were so simple… no number, no street name, no zip code. “Hey, send this to the pottery company. Yeah, the one in Trenton.”

Have a great weekend.

SOMETHING OLD, SOMETHING NEW

image

Old: Letter addressed to West Point, presumably during WWI (date is not legible but postage was only 3 cents).

New: U.S. Merchant Marine stamps just issued by the Post Office (run, don’t walk!) + anchor rubber stamp found here.

YOU SAY IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY

Happy August 1st! Big birthday shout-out today to my sister, Mary. My studio printer broke last week (not cool) so what better excuse to bust out the washi tape + pens for some homemade b-day love. Hope you have a great one, M!

P.S. I found the b + w washi tape here. Pretty much my new fave.

CUSTOM STAMP

Just wrapped up this custom stamp for a gorgeous home in Connecticut. Had a lot of fun with this one… really loving the architectural details of this house, especially the oval window above the front door. (I think I’m starting to live vicariously through my stamps).

CUSTOM STAMP

It’s no secret that I love stamps. You just can’t beat the imperfections and versatility that they offer. I am super excited about this custom stamp that I just wrapped up… my client asked for an illustration of her home as a return address stamp (genius idea, CW!) which led to the custom home cards. Which led to me falling in love with drawing people’s homes. Harks back to the good old days when homes had their own identities. Hello, Monticello!

Friends & relatives are always getting prototypes of new card ideas. This weekend there are two big reasons to celebrate: my sister Bridget’s birthday (Sat) and Mother’s Day (Sun). Sending some stationery love… don’t forget your own Mother’s Day cards!! imageimageimage P.S. Has anyone seen these new Gregory Peck stamps from the USPS?! Hello, Handsome. Thank you, Gregory, for matching the SH/Co. color palette. image Photos by Scout’s Honor Co.
