If you’re feeling the draaaiiin of your computer and you’re in Vermont, I highly recommend a trip to Shelburne Museum before it closes for the season. The buildings + grounds are amazing on their own - but getting to watch old school letterpress and blacksmith artisans in action is so inspiring. I guarantee you will walk outta there wanting to create. Below is a lil something I picked up, made in the blacksmith shop. Hope it brings me some luck.

P.S. The blacksmith mentioned that he was a dentist for 30 years in his previous life. As I watched him pound metal with a hammer, I could kinda see the connection. Yikes.

It’s not everyday that you walk into a shop and find a bumper sticker with your name on it. And an American flag. Nothing else. I mean, really?! Too good to be true. I did a triple take when I saw this in Vallee’s Den of Antiquity in Grand Isle, VT. Upon further digging, I found a bunch of stickers saying ‘Buckley for Lieutenant Governor’ from 1976. Not as cool as the original but you know I bought them all.

*Wouldn’t that be nice.

It’s a big night for my friends at Burton… the new website goes live at midnight, the 2012 catalog comes out tomorrow, and the store is full of new product. Most of all, months + months of hard work by hard-working people finally sees the light of day. Congrats, buds! And Pf - you killed it.

The above is one of my fave board relics from Burton… passed onto Pf by the infamous TG.

“New England is not just a place… It is a way of life.”
Love this old book… it is chock full of all the notable products, events, places, + people in New England in 1973. It covers seemingly everything across the categories of Earth, Leisure, Habitat, + Craft. Really cool to see that some of the topics mentioned are still going strong today (L.L. Bean, Yankee Magazine, Harrington’s, Frog Hollow Craft Center, EMS, Crane & Co., Down East Magazine, Boston Marathon).

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Spent most of the day down in East Barre, VT at a die-cutter’s shop (finishing up program fans for M + J’s wedding). Really interesting to watch the machines in action… learned a ton from the shop owner about the process as well. On the drive back, this lil scene stopped me in my tracks. Old barn, check. American flag, check. Vermont awesomeness, done.

Hope everyone had a great 4th of July! I spent some time exploring the islands in VT and our fab state parks (the park crews did such an awesome job of cleaning up after the flooding). Below are a few of my fave details from the weekend…

Come on, let’s really go for it this year.

P.S. I saw this quote on a hand-painted sign while driving up Route 7 a few years back… Haven’t been able to get it out of my head since. So random in the best way. Gotta love Vermont.
