Have a great weekend.

“New England is not just a place… It is a way of life.”
Love this old book… it is chock full of all the notable products, events, places, + people in New England in 1973. It covers seemingly everything across the categories of Earth, Leisure, Habitat, + Craft. Really cool to see that some of the topics mentioned are still going strong today (L.L. Bean, Yankee Magazine, Harrington’s, Frog Hollow Craft Center, EMS, Crane & Co., Down East Magazine, Boston Marathon).

Heading into the weekend… It’s been a big week of deadlines and I am excited for a little summertime R + R. Hope everyone enjoys this last weekend in July (can you believe it?!) See you on Monday.
P.S. These handmade pennants made my day. Thanks to Emily for sharing!

Scored a couple of these scout books back in the spring and just had to go back for the rest of the collection. Luckily, I purchased them right before the vendor was moving on (read: clearance sale). They were all published between 1930 and 1933 and cover life’s essentials: Athletics, Public Health, Personal Health, First Aid, and my personal fave: Forestry. I mean, come on… FORESTRY!

(Let’s be honest, I just really like the covers).

One of my all-time fave summer books is LeRoy Grannis, Surf Photography of the 1960s and 1970s. LeRoy Grannis captured surfers, their culture, and environment during the sport’s most iconic time. What I would give to live in that era for a summer. (Just look at those awesome sponsor-free jerseys). So carefree and fun.

This book came out a few years ago, but it looks like a few copies of the ‘popular edition’ (the same one I have) are still available here.

I am in love with this Ralph Lauren fabric. Hell, I am in love with Ralph Lauren (I mean, come on). Ideally, I would cover everything I own in it but the per-yard-fee just won’t allow it. So I have settled for a healthy swatch and a ton of color inspiration.

P.S. The original Ol’ Blue Eyes.

Took a quick break today after a long couple of days of deadline-cramming (project completed, yay!). Headed out to Pine Street in Burlington which is endlessly inspiring… It’s filled with old warehouses that have been converted into shops, cafes, artist studios, antique stores, you name it. Ended up at Speaking Volumes book shop. Not sure if it was the hot summer weather (my car said 96 but it likes to exaggerate) but I seemed to only buy in red, white, + blue. Don’t even get me started on the titles… Pep?! The Chance of a Lifetime? How could I not buy these.

Also, the amazing Jane of simple + pretty did a really sweet feature of my work today. Check it out here. Thank you, Jane!
P.S. Happy June 1st. Whoa.

Inspired by a vintage grain sack that I received for my bday (thanks, Mom!) I have been playing around with the colors red & tan. I really like the way the rich, warm red pops against the natural colors & materials.

Took a trip to Mason Brothers’ Architectural Salvage Warehouse this past weekend. You should definitely check it out if you are ever in Essex Junction, VT. It is a treasure trove of antique doors, old hardware, furniture, lighting, and a million other odds & ends salvaged from old homes & businesses. I could have spent all day there. They have a small book section when you walk in… scored this gem in the SH/Co. palette. It tells the story of a group of junior high boys exploring the Connecticut River. According to the book, “Becket Adventures, each summer, sponsors a traveling school with the mission of canoeing from the Canadian Border to Long Island Sound. During the 400 mile long journey it was the job of the twenty-eight boys to compile a report on the condition of the river in the year 1970. This is their report.” Sounds like an adventure. If only girls were allowed!*

Found here *Sounds like the girls had their own adventures… the record for July 17 tells of running into a group of girl scouts at a campsite in Twin Mountain, NH. The boys had two tasks that evening: “One is to make contact with the girl scouts; the other to try to buy out the Dairy Queen.” Tough life!
